As an FM, I am a member of IFMA (The International Facility Management Association). However other organizations are beneficial as well, BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association), etc. I would highly recommend joining one, or a couple.
However, be aware of how active the organization is, and what they offer. What are you looking for by joining an FM association?
Ask yourself the following: Do they offer a credentialing program? Is it recognized, and by whom? Do they offer networking opportunities? How often are they and by what medium? You get out what you put in, so be thorough in your research to be able to meet your personal goals and enjoy meeting people in the industry.
