Modern latex manufacturing in 2026 focuses on protein leaching and purification. Natural rubber contains over 200 proteins, of which 13 are known allergens.

This document explains the "Double-Leaching" technique, where gloves are washed in hot, deionized water at multiple stages of production. This process strips away the majority of extractable proteins, resulting in "Low-Protein" latex (typically <50 $\mu g/dm^2$). These ultra-pure gloves allow many clinicians who previously had mild sensitivities to return to using latex without adverse reactions.
